Hide in Plain Sight
Marta Perry
256 pages

This is a book about family and obligations, tradition and new beginnings, brick walls and letting down your guard, loss and love. It takes place in the heart of Pennsylvania Amish country with a family turning their large home into a bed and breakfast, though an old family friend who has been cheating the grandmother out of money for years is adamantly opposed to this plan. The book tells the story of the family and their fighting for their love, survival and dreams.

I did enjoy it when the Amish housekeeper pulls out the quilt from the main character’s childhood. It’s pattern is called Sunshine and Shadow. The explanation is extremely pertinent and a good reminder of keeping perspective.

…alternating bands of dark and light are like the bands of sunlight and shadow by the rails of a fence…it’s the pattern of life. Sometimes sun, sometimes shadow. Like Scripture says, ‘To everything there is a reason, and a time to every purpose under Heaven.’
